Tony Ferguson has been encouraged to retire by many, including his former UFC coach Brock Lesnar.

‘El Cucuy’ hasn’t been seen in the cage since a unanimous decision defeat to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 in December. While Tony Ferguson had moments in the bout, he still tasted defeat for the seventh fight in a row. In his current stretch, he’s previously lost to names such as Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, and Justin Gaethje.

Following his latest loss to ‘The Baddy’, many fans called for Tony Ferguson to retire. However, that’s not anything that he hasn’t heard before. Speaking on a recent edition of Rampage Jackson’s Jaxxon Podcast, the former lightweight champion discussed the subject of retirement.

There, Tony Ferguson rejected those pleas to hang up the gloves. However, the lightweight also revealed that it’s more than just fans who want him to retire. During the middle of his losing streak, he received a call from former UFC champion Brock Lesnar, urging him to do the same.

For those who recall, Brock Lesnar was Tony Ferguson’s coach on The Ultimate Fighter season 13. ‘El Cucuy’ famously won the tournament and UFC contract and remained close with the heavyweight. While they still talk today, it seems that Lesnar doesn’t like the fact that he’s actively competing.

“Coach was cool as f*ck.” Tony Ferguson stated to Rampage Jackson, recalling his time on The Ultimate Fighter with former UFC champion Brock Lesnar. “I’ve got a lot of coaches man. I’m going to be real man, it’s like coach Jackson here. I don’t know any different, it’s always make the grade to play and have people that want you to do it, I don’t know anybody else, but for me it’s different. I still keep in contact with coach [Lesnar].”

He continued, “He said, after one of my fights, I think four fights ago, ‘You should think about retiring’. coach Brock [said it], he was just real. The coolest thing he would always say to me is “Save your money, pay your taxes.” After every fight, nothing like ‘Good job’, no, ‘Save your money, pay your taxes’. Like, alright, coach.”

However, later in the interview, Tony Ferguson confirmed that he had no intentions to retire.

“I’m already a f*cking Hall of Famer, man. They already f*cking know it, and you know what? I’m not retiring. Anytime I get hurt, I come back with a f*cking vengeance because, like I said, you need a slap in that face in order to do it because the only person that’s going to do it is ourselves… Nobody is going to tell us what the f*ck to do. I’m going to fight until the wheels fall off. F*ck retiring dude.”
