Artem Lobov sets sights on Cub Swanson and "The Korean Superboy"

After a fairly decisive defeat of the dangerous Teruto Ishihara at UFC Fight Night 99, Conor McGregor training partner Artem Lobov is looking for a massive step up in competition. The Russian-born Irishman is now chasing fights with elite foes in Cub Swanson and “The Korean Superboy” Doo Ho Choi, who recently engaged in arguably the best fight of the year against each other. Lobov explained this desire in a recent interview with Peter Carroll of SevereMMA.com.

Last month, a horrifying attack on Russian MMA fighter Rasul Mirzaev flew under the radar after a night out with UFC fighters Ali Bagautinov and Artem Lobov quickly turned into a horrific night for Mirzaev. According to reports, Lobov returned to Russia last month, where he spent time with both Bagautinov and Mirzaev after Bagautinov had spent time with Lobov in Ireland back in November. The trio went out for a night at the club when several men brought up Lobov’s teammate, Conor McGregor, and his unwillingness to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov. While Mirzaev and several of the men were involved in a brief altercation, security broke up the incident and the men carried on with their night.

On Saturday afternoon (Saturday night in Europe), the UFC returned to Belfast, Northern Ireland for the first time since UFC 72, all the way back in June of 2007. They did so with UFC Fight Night 99. While the highlight of the card was undeniably Gegard Mousasi’s score settling destruction of former foil Uriah Hall, no fighter’s performance generated as big a fan response as Russian-born Irishman Artem “The Russian Hammer” Lobov’s.

Artem Lobov may have been born in Russia, but he is very much an Irishman. As such, the hard-hitting Conor McGregor training partner has been added to the lineup for the UFC’s November 19 return to Belfast, Ireland, where he will take on Japanese fan favorite Teruto “Yashabo” Ishihara. This exciting featherweight showdown was revealed by Petesy Carroll of the Irish Daily Mirror.
