AJ McKee considers himself to be the best featherweight in the world

PFL sensation AJ McKee has explained why he considers himself to be the best featherweight in mixed martial arts today.
This past weekend, AJ McKee made it three wins on the bounce – all via unanimous decision – when he was able to overcome and defeat Salamat Isbulaev. As we know, AJ has been a huge part of both the PFL and Bellator family for many years now, and at this point, some are wondering whether or not it’s time for him to test the waters in the UFC.
Perhaps the grass may just seem greener on the other side, but McKee is someone who has always wanted to challenge himself and see how far he can go at the elite level. In equal measure, PFL have been good to him, and he may want to repay them by sticking around.
In a post-fight interview, McKee had the following to say about both the win and his current legacy.
McKee talks about his legacy
“The fight started at a slower pace, from my perspective,” McKee said at his post-fight news conference. “He was fast and throwing some heat. I was able to avoid his punches, but I couldn’t really put it together on the feet. That’s the blessing of having such a wide variety of skills: You can rely on other areas.
“Once I got him down, I thought, ‘This is easy. This is where I want to be.’ I took him down and drowned him. After the first round, I saw him sitting on the floor and thought, ‘I’ve got him.'”
“I feel like I’m hands down the best featherweight in the world,” McKee said. “In my eyes, I’ve never lost a fight at 145 pounds. PFL has the baddest 145-pound fighter on the planet, and anybody willing to test that can put their money where their mouth is and we’ll see what’s up.”
