Urijah Faber will be fighting on the UFC Fight Night 52 card in Japan at the Saitama Super Arena, but not against Kid Yamamoto as was initially expected. Instead Faber will welcome Masenori Kanehara to the UFC Octagon.

The bout may come as a surprise to fight fans, seeing as how Faber is ranked #2 on the UFC’s official rankings, and Kanehara is making his UFC debut.

Kanehara is a veteran of the sport with 39 bouts, including 23 wins. Of those 23 wins, 17 are stoppages. Prior to a disqualification call for throwing a fighter from the ring in April, Kanehara was riding a 6 fight win streak.

Faber on the other hand has never lost a non-title fight, and bounced back to a loss against Renan Barao in February to defeat Alex Caceras in July at UFC 175.

UFC Fight Night 52 takes place from the Saitama Super Arena on September 20th.

The fight card for UFC Fight Night 52 is as follows at the present time:

Mark Hunt vs. Roy Nelson
Rin Nakai vs. Miesha Tate
Takanori Gomi vs. Myles Jury
Urijah Faber vs. Masenori Kanehara
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Kyle Noke
Hyun Gyu Lim vs. Takenori Sato
Kyoji Horiguchi vs. opponent TBA
Norifumi Yamamoto vs. opponent TBA
