Northcutt Heading To Tristar For Trial Period

By Chris Taylor - October 12, 2015

UFC lightweight prospect Sage Northcutt (6-0 MMA) recently praised former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre as being one of the men who inspired him to succeed in mixed martial arts.

“Georges St-Pierre is one of my favorite fighters,” Northcutt said prior to UFC 192. “He’s just a phenomenal athlete. If you look at him, he’s ripped up, and he’s in shape. (He has) incredible cardio, conditioning, strength and you can just see he has a little bit of everything and is super well-rounded. He can pick someone apart with a jab and just beat them up, or he can take them down and his takedowns are some of the best in MMA.”

Now, the undefeated 19-year-old will take his talents to the same gym which helped build “GSP” in to a world champion, as he is set to do a week-long trail at Montreal’s Tristar Gym with head coach Firas Zahabi.

Tristar gym has helped develop many great athletes including current UFC fighters Rory MacDonald, Chad Laprise, John Makdessi and of course Georges St. Pierre (who has taken a ‘break’ from the sport).

The Canadian gym has also helped prepare the likes of Jon Jones, Kenny Florian, Dennis Kang, David Loiseau and even NHL star defenseman Kris Letang for respective action.

“We (Tristar and Sage Northcutt) will be training together for a week and see if we work well together,” Firas Zahabi told MMAjunkie via text message.

“Super” Sage Northcutt made a statement in his octagon debut earlier this month at UFC 192, when he took just 57-seconds to TKO Francisco Trevino.

Will Tristar Gym be able to build Northcutt in to a dominant champion like they did with GSP? Sound off Penn Nation?
