Luke Rockhold gives ideal timetable for first title defense

By bjpenndotcom - January 5, 2016

Since Luke Rockhold defeated Chris Weidman at UFC 194 to claim the UFC middleweight championship, there has been much talk as to when his first title defense would be, and who it would be against.

While some want to see a rematch between Weidman and Rockhold, Yoel Romero’s UFC 194 win over Jacare Souza put him in a position to get the next crack at the UFC championship, leaving many to wonder who would get the first crack at Rockhold.

In addition, Rockhold revealed that he wanted to fight Vitor Belfort and get some revenge for his loss to Belfort back in 2013.

While there are a lot of things still up in the air, one thing is certain, Rockhold doesn’t want to fight at UFC 199.

He spoke to MMAJunkie:

“I would say (I want to fight in) May, June or July, but UFC 200 would be cool. I don’t want to be on UFC 199, I’ll tell you that. The hype for 200 will be so big it will take away from 199. Who wants to be on 199? I want to be on 198 or 200. That would be cool, even if I’m not main eventing.”

“It depends on what works out. Whatever. If Weidman’s ready to go, we can do that. If Yoel is the fight they want, I’ll pretty much have to be a co-main event to somebody. It better be Ronda Rousey or Conor McGregor (in the headliner).”
