Cody McKenzie returns to lightweight, faces Sam Stout at UFC on FOX 9

By Chris Taylor - October 4, 2013

UFC officials announced that a lightweight bout featuring Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout (19-9-1 MA, 8-8 UFC) and Cody McKenzie (14-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) is the latest addition to the “UFC on FOX 9” card, set for December 14 in Sacramento.

The “TUF 12” veteran, Cody McKenzie, got back in the win column in April with a unanimous decision win over Leonard Garcia. Prior to his bout with “Bad Boy,” McKenzie suffered a 31-second TKO loss to Chad “Money” Mendes at UFC 148 in Las Vegas, in a fight that served as McKenzie’s featherweight debut. After a two-fight stint at 145-pounds, McKenzie will now return to the lightweight division when he faces Stout.

Meanwhile, Canadian Sam Stout will be looking to get back in the win column following his third-round submission loss to James Krause at UFC 161 in Winnipeg. “Hands of Stone” went an impressive 4-1 inside the octagon between 2009 – 2011. However, since the beginning of 2012, Stout has gone just 2-3 under the Zuffa banner. The hard-hitting Canadian has been awared “Fight of the night” honors 6 times during his UFC career.

UFC on FOX 9 takes place December 14 live from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. The evening’s main card airs on FOX following prelims which air on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. The McKenzie vs. Stout fight will be part of the night’s preliminary card. UFC on FOX 9 is headlined by a lightweight title fight between current champ Anthony Pettis and challenger Josh Thomson.
