Ilia Topuria would be quite pleased if he can secure a welterweight title fight after UFC Freedom 250. Topuria will first need to take care of business on June 14. The lightweight titleholder is scheduled to face interim champion Justin Gaethje on the White House lawn. “El Matador” captured the 155-pound gold with a first-round knockout win over Charles Oliveira back in June 2025, but he went on a brief hiatus, which opened the door for Gaethje’s interim title win over Paddy Pimblett.

Cub Swanson rode off into the sunset in an idyllic fashion, with one of his long-time peers giving the UFC Hall of Famer props. Benson Henderson is the combatant in question who spoke on Swanson hanging up the gloves as the former prepared for his MMA return against Patrick Habirora at PFL Brussels last week. Swanson finished Nate Landwehr with a knockout in the final minute of the opening round at UFC 327 and capped off a legendary career in cinematic fashion. That early 2010s and late 2000s WEC era takes up a special place in the hearts of millennial mixed martial arts enthusiasts. A lot was made of Cub Swanson hanging up the gloves and being among the final WEC alumni who were among the last guys of his era. Arman Tsarukyan is confident that Khamzat Chimaev can stick around at 185 pounds. Chimaev suffered the first loss of his pro MMA career in a highly competitive title fight against Sean Strickland at UFC 328. Chimaev put the UFC Middleweight Championship on the line against Strickland and realized that his grappling attempts would be no cake walk from the second round and beyond. Strickland made things a dog fight until the final horn and he was awarded with the split nod.

Justin Gaethje is making things personal with Ilia Topuria just two weeks prior to UFC Freedom 250. Gaethje and Topuria are set to collide in a lightweight title unification bout on June 14. In the buildup to the fight, things had been fairly cordial between “The Highlight” and “El Matador” outside of the typical competitive talk. Things took a bit of a turn when Topuria released a video of himself attending a mock funeral for all of his fallen opponents, and included Gaethje as his next “victim.”
