Urijah Faber eyes fight with former pupil turned champion T.J. Dillashaw

A fight between Urijah Faber and T.J. Dillashaw is more than just a fight between former teammates. It is a classic story of pupil growing to fight his mentor, who in this tale happens to be Urijah Faber.

Faber recently spoke with Submission Radio and sees no issues with fighting the kid he helped turn into a champion (transcribed by MMA Fighting):

“It’s not the best feeling, to be honest. [Dillashaw] and I aren’t the best of friends like we were before. I feel like he’s turned himself into a victim in this whole situation. I feel like, in his mind, I’m ‘the bad guy’ because he left our team. I told him, ‘If you’re not on the team you can’t be coming in here and training with us.’ He feels that I kicked him out of the gym. He said it in an interview or something like that, which is comical.”

Faber said that their past relationship will not be a factor in him making his effort to become a world champion once again.

“I mean, what am I going to tell Zuffa? ‘This guy used to fight for my team so I’m not going to fight for the world championship?’ No. That’s not going to happen.”

Currently ranked at number four in the UFC bantamweight division, Faber looks to get back to a title fight and will have to get through Frankie Saenz at UFC 194 first.
