UFC Confirms Sonnen vs. Silva Official For May 31

By BJPENN.COM News - March 24, 2014

It’s still not entirely clear if Wanderlei Silva has signed his contract to fight Chael Sonnen, but that little detail didn’t stop UFC executive Grace Tourinho from addressing the issue at last night’s UFC Fight Night 38 post-fight press conference.

According to Brazil’s UFC boss, the fight between Sonnen and Silva is official for May 31, from the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo.

Sonnen is coming off a TKO loss to former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at November’s UFC 167 event in Las Vegas. Prior to that, Sonnen submitted Shogun Rua in the main event of “UFC Fight Night 26” in Boston.

Meanwhile, it’s been almost a year since “The Axe Murderer” last saw the inside of the octagon. His last bout came opposite Brian Stann in Japan, where Silva earned a second-round “Knockout of the night” victory over his American opponent.
