Jacare says he will be ‘going after Dana’ if overlooked for title shot with win over Romero

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza already feels like he should be fighting Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight title. Jacare spoke with Combate on what will happen if he gets snubbed for a title shot with a win over Yoel Romero at UFC 194 (transcribed by bloody elbow):

Dana White UFC 219

“Rockhold sure cut the line, he wasn’t supposed to be next. My title shot is long overdue, my friend. Here’s the deal, in case I beat Romero, which is what will happen, I’m going after Dana. I can’t go after the matchmaker, because Joe Silva is too small. Dana is a bit bigger. I’m next. I don’t care who wins or loses the next title fight. I want to beat Romero, a really tough guy. I will defeat him and I will be next.”

Regarding who Jacare would rather win the title at UFC 194 between Weidman and Rockhold, falling previously in a decision loss to Rockhold in Strikeforce sways him just a bit towards avenging that loss.

“I only think about getting the belt. It doesn’t matter if it will be from Luke or Chris. What I want is to be the champion. That Rockhold fight is long gone, but it would be good to have the opportunity to fight him again. I asked for that fight several times back in Strikeforce, I don’t know why it never happened.”

UFC 194 is set to take place on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada where Souza and Romero look to fight for the next middleweight title shot.
