Eddie Alvarez: ‘I’m Like A F*cking Unicorn In This Sport’

By BJPENN.COM News - September 26, 2015

UFC lightweight Eddie Alvarez was surprised when he found out that his opponent, Gilbert Melendez, tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites after their fight in Mexico City.

The former Bellator champion told ‘The MMA Hour‘ that he never suspected a guy like Melendez to be doing anything like that and said he’s pretty bad at knowing if a guy is on something. Alvarez referred to himself as a unicorn in the sport because he doesn’t do anything, as far as PEDs are concerned.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I’m really gullible with that stuff. I assume nobody does it. When I train with guys, I assume they don’t do that stuff, it’s pretty rampant. I’m like a f*cking unicorn in this sport, I’m a weirdo in that I don’t do anything.”

“I’ve been around the sport so long, I’m gullible, a lot of guys I train with, surround myself with don’t. Frankie Edgar, the guys I train with and hang out with don’t. So for me its not a normal thing to do, but you hear all these things, this guy’s doing it, guys you assume are never doing it get caught, you’re like, damn, man, everybody’s on this sh*t. I feel more and more like a f*cking unicorn. What am I, a dork because I don’t do it?”
