VIDEO | Dana White says he and Donald Trump talked fights for 15 minutes after UFC 231

“Last week was amazing,” UFC President Dana White said of UFC 231. “[United States] President [Donald] Trump called me last week to talk about the fights. He called me on Tuesday to talk about it. He said he couldn’t stop thinking about it and we talked for like 15 minutes about the fights on Saturday. So yes, that’s when you know you had a great show.”

Last week in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the UFC hosted their second to last pay-per-view event of the year with UFC 231.

The main event featured the highly anticipated featherweight title bout between defending champion Max Holloway and the undefeated BJJ phenom Brian Ortega.

In the end, it would be the champion that overwhelmed the top contender with his skills and championship level experience.

It happened to be such an incredible performance that it apparently caught the eye of the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump according to Dana White.

From top to bottom, UFC 231 was a very solid card and the main card opened with a banger too when Jimi Manuwa and Thiago Santos traded bombs for about six minutes.

A fight fan since his time working with Affliction, Donald Trump’s interest in MMA and relationship with White is well documented. Thus making a chat between the two not all too surprising.

However, with UFC 231 in the rearview mirror now, White looks to go out of 2018 with a bang tomorrow night at UFC Milwaukee.

“We’ve been on a good run of amazing fights and I don’t expect tomorrow night to be any different,” White said. “Plus it’s our last big Fox event and we need to deliver for these guys. It’s been seven incredible years and Fox has done a lot of great things for me personally, for the sport, for the athletes… So I really want to deliver tomorrow night.”
