Conor McGregor reportedly used banned substances while recovering from his brutal leg injury back in 2021, and UFC fans appear to be on his side.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache told New York Times that he wrote a letter in support of McGregor’s use of performance-enhancing drugs that benefitted his recovery after suffering a broken tibia and fibula during his UFC 264 trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier. McGregor’s team reportedly attempted to get an exemption from USADA but were never given an approval.

Eventually, UFC and USADA had a falling out. The top MMA promotion has since enlisted the help of Drug Free Sport International, SMRTL, and Combat Sports Anti-Doping for its current drug testing program.

Fans have responded to the report of McGregor’s alleged PED use, and the “Notorious” one has his share of supporters who believe there is nothing foul at play. X user “Joe” points out that McGregor hasn’t lied about the situation.

“He’s never denied it, he was on camera, juiced to the gills, flexing. Why does anyone care? He broke his leg, left the sport for two years, used PEDs to heal it properly, under UFC supervision, came back completely clean, and is now the most tested. He never fought on steroids.”

“Safrimmons2” isn’t surprised by the report in the least.

“I don’t think this is breaking news to anyone who follows the sport lmao.”

“Arik” has taken the Nate Diaz stance when it comes to the debate of PED use in sports.

“All of these pro athletes are on steroids and growth hormone. Nobody [expletive] cares.”

McGregor is scheduled to make his return to pro MMA competition on July 11. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight titleholder will be facing Max Holloway in the UFC 329 main event.
