Dana White admits UFC will never have another Conor McGregor: “I look at a guy like him like a unicorn”

Dana White believes UFC will continue to build stars, but there can only be one Conor McGregor.

While things didn’t pan out for McGregor during his short-lived return at UFC 329, there is no denying that he remains the biggest star the MMA world has ever seen. He entered the UFC roster with a ton of buzz back in 2013, and he carried that momentum all the way to his shocking 13-second knockout win over Jose Aldo in late 2015.

Two memorable clashes with Nate Diaz, a UFC lightweight title win over Eddie Alvarez, and a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather further added to McGregor’s mega stardom. His 2018 grudge match with Khabib Nurmagomedov held the record for UFC’s highest buyrate during the promotion’s pay-per-view era.

Appearing on “The Pivot,” White said there can only be one “Mystic Mac” (via MMAFighting).

“[Revolutionary] in the sports world, not just in the UFC,” White said. “I look at a guy like him like a unicorn. People always ask me, ‘Who’s the next Conor McGregor?’ There’s never going to be another Conor McGregor.

“In the time, in the place and the way he came into the sport, there will be a different superstar but there will never be another Conor.”

McGregor entered the Octagon for the first time in five years on July 11. His comeback fight against Max Holloway barely lasted past the one-minute mark as McGregor suffered a right knee injury. The diagnosis is an injury to his ACL and meniscus. In a statement, the Irishman said he believes he can return in summer 2027.

McGregor has one more fight left on his UFC deal. While he claimed the fight had been scheduled for April, it appears unlikely that he’ll be cleared for a spring return. While many wonder how much McGregor even has left as a prizefighter, the “Notorious” one has insisted that he wants a trilogy with “Blessed.”
