Coach: Dillashaw loss was good for Renan Barao

This past Sunday Dominick Cruz returned to the Octagon for just his second fight in 4 years as he reclaimed his UFC bantamweight championship after picking up a split decision win.

Following Cruz’s win he found himself being called out by nemesis Urijah Faber, and there was much speculation as to whether or not Faber would get a title shot, or if Dillashaw would get an immediate rematch.

One person who is celebrating Dillashaw’s loss is Renan Barao, whose coach spoke to MMAFighting to discuss why Dillashaw’s loss was good for the former champ:

“I can’t say the result wasn’t good for us. It was. The belt changing hands is great for us. If T.J. (Dillashaw) continued as champion, we wouldn’t have a third fight between T.J. and (Renan) Barao, so the result was really good for us. If you ask me if [another title shot is] what I want, of course it is. That’s what I want. But we have to wait and see how everything goes. It’s too soon to talk about it.”

Barao is coming off a 4th round TKO loss to Dillashaw back in July of 2015, which marked his second loss to Dillashaw, and his 2nd loss in 3 fights.
