One of Sean O’Malley’s longtime adversaries is prepared to stop watching UFC fights if he’s awarded the next bantamweight title shot.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley snapped the first losing skid of his career last Saturday at UFC 324. In an instant classic, O’Malley outpointed streaking contender Song Yadong by unanimous decision to earn his first victory since UFC 299.

O’Malley returned to the bantamweight title mix with his victory at UFC 324. His former rival, Petr Yan, recently reclaimed the bantamweight title by defeating two-time foe Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 323.

After his performance at UFC 324, O’Malley made the case for another title shot, potentially skipping the line of Dvalishvili and others. If O’Malley gets the next shot at Yan, a former two-division UFC champion believes it could be sport-crushing.

Henry Cejudo believes Sean O’Malley title shot after UFC 324 could ruin MMA

In a recent episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Henry Cejudo weighed in on O’Malley and the state of the bantamweight division after UFC 324.

“You cannot just sit there and think if you just wait, surpass Umar Nurmagomedov or Cory Sandhagen just, ‘Oh yeah, I’m next. Let me just kick it and watch.’ Bro, that ain’t it,” Cejudo said of O’Malley.

“And if the UFC does do that, I’m f—— done watching the sport. That would be ridiculous. It’s almost like Sean’s a little delusional. He still thinks he’s a little bit of Conor, where he wants to wait.

“Merab really does deserve it with what he’s been able to do,” Cejudo continued on O’Malley’s title shot case. “‘I’ll just wait and then I’ll get the winner,’ I say bro, it don’t work like that.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)

Cejudo and O’Malley have history. They had an infamous backstage back-and-forth after one of O’Malley’s past fights, and the two have traded barbs ever since.

Cejudo announced his retirement at UFC 323 last month after a legendary run in the Octagon. As for O’Malley, he’s looking to potentially reclaim the bantamweight throne at the behest of Cejudo.
