We’re now less than a month away from UFC 196 where Conor McGregor will challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight championship. The fight will be McGregor’s first at lightweight under the UFC banner. Ahead of the bout many are questioning how Conor McGregor’s speed will be at lightweight. In a video of McGregor sparring with welterweight teammate Gunner Nelson, McGregor can be seen looking quick and bulked up.

Back at UFC 192 Tyron Woodley and former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks were slated to square off to decide who would get a crack at Robbie Lawler’s welterweight championship. Hendricks had a weight-cut mishap and was rushed to the hospital. Woodley was ultimately awarded the title shot by UFC President Dana White. Lawler went on to fight, and defeat, Carlos Condit via controversial decision. Condit called for an immediate rematch, and there was no mention of Woodley’s promise of a title shot.

At ‘UFC Fight Night: Vegas’ last week where Stephen Thompson scored an incredible 1st round KO over Johny Hendricks, Mickey Gall defeated Mike Jackson on the UFC Fight Pass prelims. With his win over Jackson, Gall was named as the man to fight CM Punk at UFC 200. Punk seemed to be thrilled, even picking up journalist Ariel Helwani. Unfortunately, several days after the fight it was revealed that Punk had to undergo back surgery and would likely be unable to fight at UFC 200. Despite that, when Punk’s back is healed in 4-6 weeks he will fight Mickey Gall.

The event, which is scheduled for March 20th according to MMAWeekly will feature a grappling match between Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping, a MMA fight between Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn, a pro-wrestling match between Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio, and a boxing match between Roy Jones Jr. and a fan who has yet to be selected.

Tito Ortiz cited for battery in Las Vegas

News surfaced late Friday evening that former UFC champion Tito Ortiz had been cited for misdemeanor battery outside of a Las Vegas nightclub. The situation in question was with a woman over a cell phone which lead to Ortiz allegedly getting physical in an attempt to take the phone. When police arrived at The Cromwell hotel, Ortiz was not placed under arrest and was issued a citation.

Earlier this month Mickey Gall defeated Mike Jackson in the 1st round of their ‘UFC Fight Night: Vegas’ scrap. The win earned Gall a crack at CM Punk at UFC 200 in July. Just several days after Gall’s win it was revealed that Punk had to undergo surgery for a herniated disc. As a result Punk would be sidelined 4-6 weeks however the fight with Gall is still on, however there’s no guess as to when.
