Wednesday afternoon the UFC held a UFC 196 press conference in California after the announcement that Nate Diaz would be stepping in on short notice for Rafael dos Anjos. As many expected, McGregor and Diaz got into some pretty heated verbal exchanges with Diaz even accusing McGregor of using steroids.

After Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from UFC 196 with a broken foot, there was much speculation as to who would fill the slot opposite McGregor. The UFC offered Jose Aldo a rematch on short notice at lightweight, however Aldo turned the rematch down, with his coach revealing that Aldo wasn’t in fight shape.

Tuesday morning the MMA world awoke to news that UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos had broken his foot and would no longer be able to fight Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 196. Ultimately the UFC selected Nate Diaz as a replacement for dos Anjos, and the bout was moved from lightweight to welterweight.
