On August 4, in the main event of UFC 227, UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw will defend his title against the very man he won it from: his arch rival Cody Garbrandt. The pair first met in the co-main event of UFC 217, back in November, when Dillashaw knocked Garbrandt out after surviving a first-round knockdown. Neither man has fought since.

Surging UFC middleweight contender Israel Adesanya has recently been angling for a fight with the former champion Anderson Silva. While Silva says he doesn’t know who Adesanya is, there’s another top middleweight who does: Derek Brunson. Derek Brunson recently took to Twitter to call for a fight with Israel Adesanya. He’s hoping to fight Adesanya at UFC 230 on November 3 in New York City — a card that will feature a trio of other, huge middleweight fights.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is now set to defend his title at UFC 228 on September 8 in Dallas. He will not, however, defend it against current interim welterweight champion Colby Covington. Instead, he’s poised to defend his strap against surging British contender Darren Till. The UFC announced this bout on Tuesday.

Last night, Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series returned to our screens with another great card. Of all the bouts on this card, none were as anticipated as the main event, which saw former World Series of Fighting Standout Nick Newell get his long-awaited shot at a UFC contract opposite Team Alpha Male’s Alex Munoz. Newell is a congenital amputee, whose arm left ends just below the elbow. While UFC President Dana White initially referred to Newell as a “liability,” it seemed that even he was getting behind the star ahead of last night’s Contender Series.

Earlier this week, UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier suggested that fighters like Anderson Silva and Jon Jones should not be mentioned when debating the greatest fighters in MMA history on the basis of the failed drug tests in their pasts. “Demetrious [Johnson], Georges St-Pierre, these guys have none of these bad things tied to their names and these are the guys I should share the conversation with,” Cormier said on Slip n’ Dip Podcast. “I’ve never had any negatives and I’ve never had to go in front of any commission and explain why my test came up messed up. That’s why I should be in the conversation because I’ve done things the correct way.”

First, Gustafsson’s planned opponent Volkan Oezdemir withdrew from their fight an injury. Then, shortly after he was called out by rising contenders Khalil Rountree and Anthony Sith, Gustafsson was forced off the card with an injury of his own.

When Daniel Cormier knocked out Stipe Miocic to capture the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 226, he became one of just two fighters to hold UFC titles in two divisions at once, as he already owned the UFC light heavyweight belt at the time. The other is Conor McGregor. Perhaps more importantly than this historic feat, however, is the fact that the win over Miocic cemented Cormier as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history — in any weight class, in any promotion.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate, who is now a proud Mom, has left the perilous world of cage fighting behind. That said, the former champ and WMMA legend is eager to keep her tools sharp in the gym. In fact, she hopes to compete in more competitive grappling matches in the future. “I definitely see training as part of my life moving forward,” Tate recently told MMAjunkie. “There’s no way I could just let that go. It’s been such a big part of my life since, I would say, 15 years old is when I started wrestling. I’m anxious to get back. I’m not quite there, but I’m really close. I’m working out, but I just haven’t actually got back on the mat.
