UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is now set to defend his title at UFC 228 on September 8 in Dallas. He will not, however, defend it against current interim welterweight champion Colby Covington. Instead, he’s poised to defend his strap against surging British contender Darren Till. The UFC announced this bout on Tuesday.

Last night, Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series returned to our screens with another great card. Of all the bouts on this card, none were as anticipated as the main event, which saw former World Series of Fighting Standout Nick Newell get his long-awaited shot at a UFC contract opposite Team Alpha Male’s Alex Munoz. Newell is a congenital amputee, whose arm left ends just below the elbow. While UFC President Dana White initially referred to Newell as a “liability,” it seemed that even he was getting behind the star ahead of last night’s Contender Series.

Earlier this week, UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier suggested that fighters like Anderson Silva and Jon Jones should not be mentioned when debating the greatest fighters in MMA history on the basis of the failed drug tests in their pasts. “Demetrious [Johnson], Georges St-Pierre, these guys have none of these bad things tied to their names and these are the guys I should share the conversation with,” Cormier said on Slip n’ Dip Podcast. “I’ve never had any negatives and I’ve never had to go in front of any commission and explain why my test came up messed up. That’s why I should be in the conversation because I’ve done things the correct way.”

It’s been such a big part of my life since, I would say, 15 years old is when I started wrestling. I’m anxious to get back. I’m not quite there, but I’m really close. I’m working out, but I just haven’t actually got back on the mat.
