USADA confirms the banned substance Jon Jones was flagged for

By Russell Ess - August 24, 2017

The MMA community is still buzzing over the fact that Jon Jones was flagged for the second time in his career for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation. What makes the news even more shocking is how Jones just recently came off a one-year suspension for testing positive for banned substances last year in July. To add to the drama, Jones just won the UFC light heavyweight title back in a devastating fashion by being the first competitor to knock out and finish Daniel Cormier.

An intial report from TMZ stated that Jones tested positive for the anabolic steroid Turinabol. Jones manager Malki Kawa also said that it was Turinabol that Jones popped for while talking on The MMA Hour on Wednesday.

MMA Fighting’s Marc Raimondi‏ also tweeted on Thursday that he got a confirmation from USADA that Turinabol was the banned substance Jones tested positive for.

Raimondi tweeted: USADA has confirmed to me what Malki Kawa said yesterday on #themmahour: Jon Jones tested positive for turinabol.

Kawa has been a strong voice for Jones who has been backing his friend and client.

“I know Jon better than anybody, and I’m telling you, this man does not cheat. He has no reason to,” Kawa said on The MMA Hour (transcribed by Shaun Al-Shatti for MMA Fighting).

“I’m encouraging everyone to go out there and take a look at the tests he passed and the test he failed. It’s a three-week window the month of the fight. Jon has passed seven unannounced tests, and the one he’s going to fail is the one that’s announced? It’s weird to me, there’s a lot of things here that don’t add up, and to the UFC, it doesn’t add up.”
