Jiri Prochazka shares reason for extreme training methods: “I want to be in deep contact with fear”

Jiri Prochazka goes the extra mile with his unconventional training methods before UFC fights, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Prochazka is known to find extreme ways to prepare for battle and few can argue with the results. He has captured world titles for both UFC and RIZIN. Prochazka will have a chance to become a two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion when he meets Carlos Ulberg at UFC 327 on April 11.
Appearing on the “Dan LeBatard Show,” Prochazka revealed that fear plays a factor in why he goes beyond the norm when it comes to fight preparation (via MMAFighting).
“Fear. I hate fear,” Prochazka said. “No, I don’t hate fear. I want to be so deep in contact with the fear to see through him, because he is just shaking the mind. He’s just shaking your emotion and asking you, ‘Are you sure in this? Are you stable [inside]?’ And I hate these type of questions, inside myself, to myself. So, that’s why I’m doing all these things, and trying to be a little bit closer, a little bit closer, a little bit closer, day by day, to the calm mind. To see totally through.”
The light heavyweight title was vacated by Alex Pereira, who will be moving up to fight for the interim heavyweight gold at UFC Freedom 250. If Prochazka can defeat Ulberg for the vacant 205-pound championship, he’ll join the likes of Jon Jones, Chuck Liddell, and Randy Couture as a fighter who captured the UFC light heavyweight title more than once.
