‘Bigi Boy’ returned in the main event of UFC Vegas 87 over the weekend. Back for the first time since a submission loss to Jailton Almeida last May, Jairzinho Rozenstruik returned to face Shamil Gaziev. The undefeated heavyweight prospect debuted in the Dana White-led company with a second-round knockout win over Martin Buday in December.

Unfortunately for Shamil Gaziev, he lost his undefeated record on Saturday night. Through four rounds, the two heavyweights were close, but Jairzinho Rozenstruik began to take over in the championship rounds. Before round five, Gaziev’s team threw in the towel, handing ‘Bigi Boy’ the stoppage victory. Prior to the stoppage, Rozenstruik was up on two of three judges’ scorecards.

Just a few days removed from that UFC Vegas 87 headliner, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Shamil Gaziev have exchanged messages on social media. The loser first made a post on X, congratulating the longtime heavyweight on his win. Then, Rozenstruik sent a brief message to Gaziev, telling him to forget the loss.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik also included a brief comment about losing his own undefeated status, and how that affected him. Much like Shamil Gaziev, the heavyweight began his career 10-0 in the UFC. However, Rozenstruik lost his undefeated record in 2020, when he ran into Francis Ngannou. ‘The Predator’ knocked out the undefeated contender in 20 seconds at UFC 249.

“First of all congratulations @JairRozenstruik, good job today. Got eye and nose damage in 2nd round and couldn’t follow fight plan. If anyone thinks it will break me, I will disappoint you, I’m going to return gym in the coming days and I promise my fans to get better.” – Shamil Gaziev wrote on X earlier today.

The heavyweight quickly responded: “@GazievMMA, don’t worry about the loss. Imagine what I’ve gone through when I lost my undefeated status. I hope you recover soon! Be good. #JairzinhoRozenstruik #BigiBoy”

With his win on Saturday night, Jairzinho Rozenstruik improved to 2-1 in his last three appearances in the cage. Following his victory over Shami Gaziev, the heavyweight contender called for a return in the summer, in July or August. However, Rozenstruik declined to call anyone out specifically, instead stating that he would stay ready.
