Though it was not without controversy, he was able to win this final contracted fight, and will now be able to test free agency as one of the hottest middleweights in the world. This weekend, when the UFC returns to Fox, streaking Brazilian middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will look to follow in Mousasi’s footsteps, closing out his current contract with a win over the dangerous Robert Whittaker.

Mousasi caught Weidman with a pair of knees during the midway point of the second round that had the former champion in a world of hurt. Gegard Mousasi blasts UFC for pay structure

bjpenndotcom - April 4, 2017

UFC middleweight Gegard Mousasi is one of the most experienced fighters in the UFC. With 49 professional MMA fights, Mousasi has compiled an impressive 41-6 record over the course of his fourteen year professional career, which saw him fight for numerous high-profile promotions such as Pride FC, M-1, Strikeforce, and the UFC to name just a few. With that being said, Mousasi feels that at this point in his career, he should be getting paid as much as his fellow MMA veterans.

At UFC 210, on April 8th, top ranked middleweights Gegard Mousasi and Chris Weidman will square off in a highly anticipated showdown that could produce the next middleweight #1 contender. While Weidman is entering the fight on a 2-fight skid that saw him drop back to back TKO losses to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero, Mousasi is entering into the fight on a 4-fight win streak that has seen him recently pick up three straight KO/TKO wins over the course of 2016, with his record for the year ending at 4-0.

Chris Weidman is in incredible shape ahead of his UFC 210 bout with Mousasi

Tom Taylor - March 26, 2017

For a time, Chris Weidman looked like he was going to be come a truly dominant champion. First, he knocked out Anderson Silva to win the UFC middleweight title. Then, he defeated Silva again – albeit thanks to a freakish leg injury – erasing any doubt that he deserved his station atop the middleweight division. Next, he defeated Lyoto Machida in a thrilling, five-round war. And finally, he took out a bona fide MMA legend in Vitor Belfort, marking his third-straight defense of the middleweight title. Indeed, it looked like it could be the beginning of a legendary reign for the talented American star.

Tom Taylor - March 22, 2017

In a few short weeks, the UFC will touch down in Buffalo, New York with an interesting looking night of fights in UFC 210. In the main event, we’ll see Daniel Cormier attempt to defend the UFC light heavyweight title against an old foe in Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. In the co-main event, meanwhile, Dutch contender Gegard Mousasi will attempt to continue his march toward the middleweight title against former champ Chris Weidman. Weidman will enter this fight on a two-fight losing streak, having been stopped by top-ranked fighters in Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero in his last two fights. In advance of his fight at UFC 210, Weidman has suggested that Mousasi is a well-deserved step down in competition.

Despite his status as a defending champion, however, Bisping is likely to be a substantial underdog in his next bout, which will pit him against former Olympian Yoel Romero at a to-be-determined date.

Gegard Mousasi worries Trump's travel ban will keep him out of UFC 210 fight with Chris Weidman

Tom Taylor - January 31, 2017

At UFC 210, which is scheduled for April 8 in Buffalo, New York, Gegard Mousasi has the opportunity to burst into middleweight title contention with a win over former champion Chris Weidman – that is, if he’s allowed to enter the United States. In a recent interview with Telesport (via Fansided), Mousasi expressed worry that US President Donald Trump‘s recent travel ban could effect his ability to enter the country for this fight. This controversial travel ban bars citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen) from entering the United States. As an Iranian-born Dutchman, this could make things difficult for Mousasi.

When Gegard Mousasi avenged his previous loss to Uriah Hall in November, he set his sights on the middleweight division’s top-5, where he hoped to find an opponent who could propel him the rest of the way to a title shot. Now, it appears as though his crosshairs have landed on Chris Weidman, who is currently on a tough, two-fight skid after an admirable reign as UFC middleweight champion. “[The UFC] offered you the fight days ago, [Chris Weidman],” Mousasi said to Weidman on Twitter. “Suddenly you have disappeared. Accept the fight already. I am waiting, pal. #Don’tBeScared.”

Gegard Mousasi on Robert Whittaker: If I fought him, I would beat him easily

Tom Taylor - November 29, 2016

This win pushed Mousasi up to the outer edges of middleweight title contention. One week after Mousasi’s big Belfast win, Robert Whittaker scored a first-round win of his own over the streaking Derek Brunson. With this win, the young Whittaker found himself almost neck-and-neck with Mousasi in the UFC middleweight rankings.
