EXCLUSIVE | Alan Jouban is down for a shootout with “Cowboy” or “Stun Gun”

By Tom Taylor - March 1, 2018

Last weekend, on the undercard of the UFC’s exciting stop in Orlando, Florida, Alan Jouban rebounded from a tough, two-fight skid with a beautiful second-round knockout of friend and fellow 10th Planet student Ben Saunders.

Now that’s he’s back in the win column, Jouban is ready to take another step up the welterweight ladder. And while he didn’t have any names in mind initially, he does like one idea put forth by the UFC Tonight panel post-fight: Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The only problem is that he considers Cowboy a friend, and after knocking out Saunders, he’d rather fight somebody he’s not close with. Like Dong Hyun Kim.

“I really don’t have anybody in particular [in mind],” Jouban said on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “Like, people were mentioning Cowboy, like UFC Tonight and stuff, and I would entertain that idea. The only thing that sucks is that, he’s a guy that I like, and he just fought a friend [in Yancy Medeiros], I just fought a friend… I don’t know if people wanna see another friend fight between people, you know? I mean, me and Cowboy aren’t like friends. But we’re guys that we’ve met, we like each other, we respect each other. So it’d be kind of one of those again. So maybe anybody that would be an exciting, get in your face fight, I’d be up for. But I don’t really have any names. Maybe the Korean guy, [Dong Hyun Kim] or whatever, the guy from Korea, he’s a ranked guy, he’d be a good opponent. But I’m up for whoever they give me.”

Cowboy, of course, has said he’d like to return to the lightweight division – though we know he’s an anyone, anywhere, any time kind of guy.
