Joe ‘Stitch ‘Em’ Schilling recently did an interview with BloodyElbow where he discussed the upcoming UFC 196 main event bout between Conor McGregor and his friend Nate Diaz. Schilling, who headlines tonight’s Glory 27 event in Chicago, does not believe that Conor’s KO power will be a factor at welterweight and that his money is on Nate Diaz winning, his words:

When Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from his UFC 196 main event scrap with Conor McGregor at UFC 196, there was no shortage of top ranked fighters campaigning for the fight against McGregor. Ultimately the UFC gave Nate Diaz the bout on short notice. After that bout was announced, Urijah Faber revealed that Dana White offered him the fight, however Conor McGregor turned it down in favor of a with with Nate Diaz.

When news broke that UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos had suffered an injury and was forced to pull out of his UFC 196 main event fight with Conor McGregor, many fighters decided to throw their name in the hat for the short-notice fight. Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber was one of those fighters. Unfortunately for the “California Kid”, former UFC lightweight challenger Nate Diaz ended up being the fighter selected to ‘fill the void’ for March’s UFC pay-per-view event.

While Conor McGregor is slated to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 196 on March 5th, he has his sights set of Nick Diaz in the future. At the UFC 196 press conference on Wednesday, McGregor repeatedly used the microphone to make statements towards Nick Diaz, who was not on stage but was at the event. In addition, McGregor referred to Nate Diaz as “Nick’s lil bro” several times throughout the event.

Everyone knew Conor McGregor’s UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz would include quite a bit of trash talk. However, with that being said no one could have predicted that a fan would take things this far. A fan posted a photo of himself wielding an AK-47 on Twitter along with several Tweets warning McGregor to “be careful” following the UFC 196 press conference Wednesday afternoon.

Former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger Chael Sonnen thinks everybody missed the point of Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor taking place at the welterweight limit of 170-pounds. According to Sonnen, the UFC 196 main event fight between McGregor and Diaz was set at 170-pounds so that the UFC can promote a welterweight title fight between “Mystic Mac” and Robbie Lawler later this year at UFC 200.

Unfortunately, dos Anjos broke his foot earlier this week and was forced out of the bout. Wednesday afternoon the UFC held a UFC 196 press conference in California after the announcement that Nate Diaz would be stepping in on short notice for Rafael dos Anjos. As many expected, McGregor and Diaz got into some pretty heated verbal exchanges with Diaz even accusing McGregor of using steroids.
