Their initial bout set for UFC 189 had to be rescheduled to UFC 194 after Aldo suffered an injury in training, which brought them more media time together. With Aldo now the UFC interim featherweight champion, McGregor was asked if he will be returning to the featherweight division for another fight with Aldo following this match with Diaz.

McGregor was extremely vocal about the tragedy, posting heartfelt messages on his social media pages regarding the heartbreaking situation.
