Rousimar Palhares Suspended By Brazilian Commission For 120 Days

By BJPENN.COM News - October 11, 2013

Not only has Rousimar Palhares lost out on his $50,000 ‘Submission of the Night” bonus and his job with the UFC, the welterweight submission artist now has to sit out on the sidelines due to a suspension.

The Brazilian Athletic Commission informed BJPENN.COM that they are suspending Palhares for his ‘anti sportsmanship attitude’ and will force him on the sidelines for 120 days.

Rousimar was  suspended for 90 days in 2010 for a similar offense. He also received a 9 month suspension for elevated testosterone levels last year.

Here’s the official statement from the Athletic Commission in Brazil:

After detailed analysis of the conduct of Rousimar Palhares in his bout, at the event “UFC Fight Night” held on October 9, 2013 at the City of Barueri (SP), we communicate the suspension of the athlete for a period of 120 (one hundred and twenty) days, counted as from the end of the period of his medical suspension. The determination of the suspension period considered, among other aspects, the fact that this is not his first anti sportsmanship attitude of the same nature.
