Cody Garbrandt May Have Broken His Hand on TJ Dillashaw’s Face at UFC 217

By Justin Golightly - November 9, 2017

It’s no secret that Cody Garbrandt hits hard. …Really hard. If anyone knows it, it’s TJ Dillashaw. Of course, Dillashaw ended up knocking out Garbrandt and screaming in his face like a primal warrior, but no one expected that after the end of the first round. That’s because Dillashaw was on baby legs after a heat-seeking missile of a right hand. There’s no way to tell where it happened or if it was a problem even before their fight at UFC 217, but it looks like Garbrandt’s power was too much for his own hand.

All we have to go off of is a screenshot form Cody Garbrandt’s Instagram live story, but he’s going to need surgery on his hand. Respect to Garbrandt for not even saying anything about it, most likely at the danger of being accused of making excuses for his lost to TJ Dillashaw. A fight that was originally postponed because Garbrandt needed surgery on his back.

There’s no official word on how severe the injury is or how long Garbrandt will be out, but this will just add to the serious mix-up that the bantamweight division just had inflicted on it: Dillashaw wants Demetrious Johnson at flyweight, the winner of Dominick Cruz and Jimmie Rivera was slated to get the next bantamweight title shot, but Cruz just had to pull out with a broken arm, and now Garbrandt is injured. We’ll keep you updated as the smoke clears.
