UFC Fight Night 39 Bonus Report: Guida, Kawajiri, Nelson and Nijem Take Home Extra Cash

By bjpenndotcom - April 11, 2014

It was an all main-card affair for the bonuses tonight at UFC Fight Night 39.

Fight of the Night: Clay Guida vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Clay Guida and Tatsuya Kawajiri brought the crowd to their feet in this fight of the night performance. Guida had the opportunity to lock up the win early on when he knocked Kawajiri down with a hook, but he did not get to his opponent in time to finish him off. Guida attacked first in many of their exchanges throughout the remainder of the fight, but Kawajiri did a fantastic job in countering with sweeps, slams and submissions. Kawajiri started to show signs of fatigue in the third round and it was evident his gas tank was nothing compared to Guida’s. Guida was still jumping in place during the post-fight interview.

Performance of the Night: Ramsey Nijem
Ramsey Nijem punished the bookies tonight for labeling him as an underdog. Nijem made quick work of Beneil Dariush by knocking him out in the very first round. Beneil Dariush showed promise in his first bout when he submitted Charlie Brenneman, but it was clear he was not prepared for the version of Ramsey Nijem that showed up to Abu Dhabi tonight. Nijem is now on a two fight winning streak.

Performance of the Night: Roy Nelson
As sad as it was to see Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira collapse helplessly to the mat as he got knocked out, it’s hard to not be impressed with Roy Nelson tonight. He was never in danger and was the prime example of the type of fighter that should earn these ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses. He picked Nogueira apart, landing shots at will until he finally put the legend out of his misery with a dynamite right. Big Nog was out cold before he even hit the mat.
