‘Shogun’ Rua vs. James Te Huna set for ‘UFC Fight Night 33’ in Australia

UFC officials announced today that a light heavyweight bout featuring former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-8 MMA, 5-6 UFC) and James Te Huna (16-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) will serve as the co-main event of the evening when the UFC returns to Australia this December for UFC Fight Night 33.

“Shogun” Rua is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his professional mixed martial arts career. The former Pride Grand Prix winner, Rua, was most recently submitted by Chael Sonnen in the first-round of their main event fight at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston. Prior to that, Rua was outpointed by Alexander Gustafsson in the co-main event bout of UFC on FOX 5 in Seattle.

Meanwhile, James Te Huna suffered the same fate as Rua in his last outing, as he was choked out in the opening round of his fight with perennial 205-pound contender Glover Teixeira at UFC 160. Prior to that, the New Zealander who now fights of Australia, was riding a four fight win-streak. That streak included victories over Ryan Jimmo, Joey Beltran, Aaron Rosa and Ricardo Romero respectively.

The event itself is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Mark “Super Samoan” Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
