Mark Hunt Nearly Quit On The UFC Last Month

By BJPENN.COM News - August 18, 2014

Fan favorite UFC heavyweight Mark ‘Super Samoan’ Hunt stirred up the media last month when he Tweeted the following:

Dana White refuted the rumor that Hunt had been cut, causing some confusion. Hunt later attributed the ominous Tweet to his diet leading up to his headlining fight against Roy Nelson in Japan next month.

Hunt spoke with The Sunday Star and revealed that he almost walked away from the UFC prior to th ominous Tweet.

“When I started, it was all about money. Now I don’t care. It was kinda backward when I started.
“I love the sport, I love fighting.”
And yet he almost walked away earlier this month.
Hunt wanted a three-fight contract, UFC wanted eight; they settled on six after an ominous Hunt tweet about becoming unemployed caused a brief kerfuffle.
He doesn’t want to talk about the wrangling, beyond admitting his wife talked him around. “She brought me back to reality. I didn’t make an emotional decision, I made a decision based on business. I nearly made the biggest mistake of my life. I could have never fought again. I am glad things worked out and I am glad to have UFC as my employers.”
