Kelvin Gastelum ‘still trying to figure out’ weight cut down to 170lbs

By Chris Taylor - June 27, 2014

The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) is preparing for his co-main event bout with Nico Musoke at this weekend’s “UFC Fight Night 44” event in San Antonio.

The young welterweight fighter recently revealed that he can get as heavy as 200-225 pounds when not in camp and that he is still adjusting to the cutting-weight portion of fighting:

“Yeah I mean, it’s just something that I’m still trying to figure out. I think that we’ve got a hold of it this time pretty well. You know, this is my third time going down to welterweight, so it’s relatively new still, but we’re figuring it out pretty much, and I think this time we’ve got a pretty good hold of my weight and my diet.”

Gastelum was most recently seen in action at March’s UFC 171 event in Dallas, where he scored a split-decision win over Rick Story. Kelvin will be looking to keep his perfect record intact when he faces Musoke this Saturday evening.

UFC Fight Night 44 takes place this Saturday night live from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
