Greg Jackson: Jon Jones At Heavyweight Would Be Fun For Me

By bjpenndotcom - April 29, 2013

With his victory over Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 this past weekend, Jon “Bones” Jones has once again solidified his position as UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. His wins over fellow light heavyweights Rashad Evans, Quinton Jackson, Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida were so dominant that middleweights like Vitor Belfort and Chael Sonnen invaded his division to try and pry the belt away from his grasp. Like all that stood before him while champion, they failed as well.

Despite recently stating that he would not mind fighting Alexander Gustafsson next, Jones has expressed interest in the past about fighting at heavyweight. In an attempt to silent the naysayers who are arguing that he has been out-sizing his opponents, he would like to venture into a division where his opposition would be larger than he is.

Greg Jackson, one of Jon Jones’ coach at Jackson’ MMA, was recently on the MMA Hour this Monday and admitted that the thought of Jon Jones moving to heavyweight for a fight would be fun.

“I’ve always said that it’s up to fighters and the management. Then it’s my job to figure out how we’re going to do that. If that’s the parameters they want to give, that’s what I do. And I actually enjoy that. Anything different is good.” Jackson continued, “If they give me parameters or opponents or whatever, that’s the fun part for me. The picking and the choosing of them? Not nearly as fun, and not really my job. I just like to break down the puzzles in front of me.”

What do you think would be a good matchup for Jon Jones at heavyweight? Who would he have trouble beating, if anyone?
