Dustin Poirier vs. Diego Brandao Added To UFC 168 In Vegas

By BJPENN.COM News - September 19, 2013

A featherweight fight has been added to the UFC’s year-end show in the form of Dustin Poirier versus Diego Brandao.

UFC officials recently confirmed the booking.

UFC 168 takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 28th. In the pay-per-view main event Chris Weidman will look to cement his spot as the UFC middleweight champion in a rematch against Anderson Silva.

Brandao brings in a three-fight win streak into this bout against Poirier. The Ultimate Fighter Season 14 champion met his first defeat inside the UFC at UFC 146 against Darren Elkins but has since bounced back with wins over Joey Gambino, Pablo Garza and Daniel Pineda.

Poirier has long been considered one of the featherweight division’s elite competitors. He last saw action in a unanimous decision victory over Erik Koch at UFC 164. It was a much-needed win for Poirier, who was able to bounce back from a prior defeat at the hands of Cub Swanson.

With the Poirier vs. Brandao addition, the latest UFC 168 card now includes:

Champ Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva – for middleweight title
Champ Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate – for women’s bantamweight title
Josh Barnett vs. Travis Browne
Diego Brandao vs. Dustin Poirier
Uriah Hall vs. Chris Leben
Michael Johnson vs. Gleison Tibau
