Chad Mendes vs. Nik Lentz set for UFC on FOX 9

By Chris Taylor - September 18, 2013

Yesterday, UFC officials announced that a key featherweight bout between Chad “Money” Mendes (15-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) and Nik Lentz (24-5-2 MMA, 8-2-1 UFC) has been added to the UFC on FOX 9 card set for December 14 in Sacramento, California.

Chad “Money” Mendes is coming off a third-round TKO victory over Clay Guida, which occured at August’s UFC 164 event in Milwaukee. The win earned Mendes his first “Knockout of the night” bonus, and also marked the first time that Clay Guida had been finished by strikes in his career.

After the Guida win, Mendes lobbied for a second crack at UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, to whom he lost via KO at UFC 142 in Brazil. Unfortunately for “Money” fans, the UFC still feels Mendes has some work to do before getting his much desired rematch with Aldo.

Since losing to “Scarface,” Mendes has gone 4-0 inside the octagon, with all 4 wins coming by form of KO/TKO, three of which came in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Nik Lentz will also be looking to extend his current win-streak when he meets Mendes this December. Since dropping down from lightweight to 145-pounds, Lentz has gone 3-0 inside the octagon. Lentz most recent effort saw him score a unanimous decision win over Hacran Dias at the “UFC on FX: Rockhold vs. Belfort” event. Prior to the Dias bout, Lentz scored victories over featherweights Diego Nunes and Eiji Mitsuoka.

UFC on FOX 9 goes down December 14 live from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. The event is headlined by a lightweight title fight between current champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and challenger Josh Thomson.
