That injury bug!

Daniel Cormier received the call of his life today, when UFC officials learned that UFC 178 headliner Alexander Gustafsson was withdrawing from his scheduled title shot due to injury.

As a result, the AKA based Olympian will get his long-awaited shot at a UFC title on September 27th in Las Vegas.

Daniel Cormier dropped down to the UFC’s light-heavyweight division after an unblemished 13 fight stint that included capturing gold in the coveted Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. As a light-heavyweight he has gone 2-0 with his latest win coming via absolute manhandling of Dan Henderson.

As a San Jose Resident and AKA roster holder, Cormier is a coach and sparring partner for UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.

The details of Gustafsson’s injury are unknown.
