Will Benson Henderson be heading over to fight for Bellator?

By Russell Ess - December 3, 2015

There has been a lot of speculation as to who former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson will be fighting for in his next bout. With “Smooth” looking to “test the market,” fight promoters outside of the UFC are salivating to pick up the former lightweight champ including Korean-based promotion Road FC and now Bellator.

Bellator President Scott Coker spoke with Sherdog to talk about the potential of picking up Henderson.

“I think that my guys have reached out just to see if he is actually a free agent because sometimes they have an exclusive negotiation period, so we’re going to wait and see [sic] wait his contract status is,” Bellator President Scott Coker told Sherdog.com. “If he is free, then yeah we’re going to start talking to him.”

With a history of contract disputes both with the UFC and Bellator, Coker wants to ensure that Henderson’s contract would allow him to fight under the Bellator promotion.

“We’d love to have a fighter like Henderson on the roster, “Coker said, “but we’re gonna do it the right way and make sure that he’s free to actually have a conversation.”
