A welterweight bout between Leon Edwards (10-3 MMA) and Kamaru Usman (7-1 MMA) finished off the UFC on FOX 17 Fight Pass Prelims in Orlando, Florida.
The fighters begin working in the clinch position to get things started. Usman shoots in for a single-leg takedown but is unsuccessful. A big shot followed by a head kick lands for Leon Edwards. Usman shoots in for another takedown and this time he gets it. Edwards begins looking for a triangle from his back. The triangle is locked in but it is not tight. Edwards begins landing some elbows from bottom position. Edwards was able to get back to his feet before the horn sounded to end round one.
Usman opens up round two by throwing a head kick. Edwards responds with a knee. Usman lands a big shot and then dives in for a successful takedown. After a small amount of ground and pound from Usman, Edwards is able to wall-walk and return to his feet. Usman immediately shoots in for another takedown but this time Edwards is able to fend it off. Good body kick and left hand lands for Edwards. Back to the clinch position and Usman is able to score a trip to wind up in top position to close out round two.
Round three and Usman immediately shoots in and earns a takedown. Good ground and pound from Usman. He is grinding on Edwards and frustrating the American Top Team fighter. Usman controlled all of round three.
