Beneil Dariush proved tonight that he isn’t just hype; He has what it takes to defeat fighters ranked in the lightweight class.
Jim Miller showed an incredible amount of heart in this fight as no matter how long he was on bottom, he was always looking for a chance to sweep Dariush. Dariush was on the top of his game, however, as Miller was never in an offensive position after the first round.
This bout was more of a jiu-jitsu match than an MMA fight. Fans in attendance booed the fact that no blood was being spilled, but real fans of grappling would have loved this bout. Mike Goldberg was right in calling it a “chess match”. The fans were treated to several submission attempts including a straight armbar, triangle choke, guillotine, rear naked choke and an arm triangle.
Of course, none of them locked in and Dariush’s top control won him the decision.
Beneil Dariush def. Jim Miller by way of Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
