The streak of exciting fights continued when Sean Strickland and Santiago Ponzinibbio battled for a grueling fifteen minutes. Despite being more active, Strickland ate more power shots which led to his demise and a victory for Brazil’s Ponzinibbio.
Strickland proved to have a phenomenal chin with the shots he absorbed tonight, but that is not going to get the judges on your side. After an even first round, Ponzinibbio started to run away with it in the second.
Ponzinibbio started to take control of the fight in the second round when he utilized octagon control. Ponzinibbio also found a comfortable striking distance where he could consistently land a lunging right hand no matter where Strickland was. Even when Strickland saw the shot coming and backed away, Ponzinibbio would still land the punch.
Strickland turned the volume of strikes up in the final round, but he continued to take some serious punishment which further solidified Ponzinibbio’s position as victor.
