Travis Browne will also undergo random drug tests prior to UFC 168

This past week we learned that Josh Barnett will undergo random drug testing leading up to his bout with Travis Browne at UFC 168. The testing will be funded by the UFC, and we now know that Barnett’s opponent will also undergo the random testing.

UFC heavyweight Travis Browne will participate in the same testing that Barnett is required to go through. The requirement for Barnett came as part of his conditional fight license, granted by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Barnett has failed post-fight drug test 3 separate times. Browne has not failed a drug test in any of his 8 fights in the octagon but had this to say in a statement released through his manager,

I think it’s a great idea, and I’m a big supporter of it. I think our sport and the commission taking actions like this is putting us ahead of the game compared to other sports. We’re not putting out a fire. We’re attacking the problem before it becomes an epidemic.”

Barnett already passed a test given to him earlier this month and will continue to be tested through all of 2014.

UFC 168 takes place December 28 in Las Vegas. Barnett vs. Browne will be featured on the main card and may very well be a fight for the number one contender spot.

What do think, should more fighters be willing to undergo random testing?
