No Retirement For Shogun, Wants On Upcoming Japan Card

By BJPENN.COM News - June 5, 2014

Following his most recent defeat, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua has decided to fight on and not retire.

News of his intentions came to us during last night’s UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 1.

The Brazilian striker came into the UFC on the heels of a nearly unmatched run in PRIDE. Once here, he’s had mixed results.

Despite being able to capture gold inside the UFC, Shogun hasn’t been able to put together back to back wins since 2009 when he beat an aging Mark Coleman and Chuck Liddell.

Now, according to the broadcast, ‘Shogun’ wants to return to Japan where he initially made a name for himself as an industry leading talent.

The UFC has but one card booked for Japan this year and it’s a free-for-tv card in the fall.
