Team Alpha Males’ Chad ‘Money’ Mendes is sitting in a pretty good position right now. He has been tapped as the standby fighter in the event Jose Aldo can’t fight at UFC 189, and will step in and fight Conor McGregor for an interim title.

If Aldo does fight as planned? Well, then Mendes gets to relax in Vegas, watch the event and get paid as if he actually fought.

According to Yahoo Sports, UFC president Dana White confirmed to them that this is the case and said the UFC has done this before.

For the record, White said Thursday that Mendes will be paid, regardless of whether he fights. White said the UFC does that frequently, and said it paid Jessica Eye to train and be ready as a backup to fight Ronda Rousey at UFC 184 in February if Cat Zingano wasn’t able to make it.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for Mendes!
