Firas Zahabi: Northcutt ‘reminds me a lot’ of a young GSP

By BJPENN.COM News - October 19, 2015

Sage Northcutt’s debut at “UFC 192” against Francisco Trevino it not only turned the heads of the UFC President and other top active fighters, but it caught the attention of Georges St. Pierre as well! Shortly after the conclusion of “UFC 192”, Northcutt decided to pack his bags in Texas and make the trip to Tristar in Montreal to further his training.

Northcutt has spent time training with rising UFC fighters like Olivier Aubin-Mercier, but coach Firas Zahabi claims that he sees a lot of similarities between Northcutt and a young St. Pierre.

“I think he reminds me a lot of Georges,” Zahabi told MMA Fighting said. “Georges is that type of guy— positive, good attitude, eager to train, always happy to go to practice. He’s always positive. I love it. That is the first step in being successful, having a good attitude.”

Northcutt was all smiles before and after his debut earlier in October and you could tell he was genuinely enjoying soaking in the entire experience. Does Northcutt have the potential to become the next big star like GSP once did? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
