Erik Koch vs. Daron Cruickshank set for UFC Fight Night 40 in Cincinnati

By Chris Taylor - February 27, 2014

UFC officials announced today that a lightweight bout between Erik Koch and Daron Cruickshank is the latest addition to the ‘UFC Fight Night 40’ event in Cincinnati, Ohio.

After suffering back-to-back losses in the UFC’s featherweight division, Erik Koch (14-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) decided to make the move up to lightweight. The Duke Roufus product found success in his 155-debut, scoring a first-round TKO win over Rafaello Oliveira at last weekend’s UFC 170 event in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Daron Cruickshank  (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) is coming off a highlight reel knockout in last performance at January’s ‘UFC on FOX 10’ event. Cruickshank landed a wheel kick on opponent Mike Rio that sent him crashing to the canvas. Daron promptly followed with punches in bunches, forcing the referee to mercifully stop the contest.

The ‘UFC Fight Night 40’ event takes place May 10 at Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena. A headlining bout has yet to be announced for the event.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1, following the prelims which show on UFC Fight Pass.
