UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos believes that his bout with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is where he will become a highly recognized prized fighter with a big draw in the UFC. Although dos Anjos is a champion, his star power isn’t on the same level as the outspoken Irishman. Dos Anjos previously said that he wants to build his legacy and name to be as big as Hall of Fame legend BJ Penn, and will look to make his name more known with a win over McGregor. Dos Anjos spoke with Combate on how a win over Conor McGregor will catapult him to a higher status (transcribed by Bloody Elbow):

The knockout Hall of Fame legend who won the world heavyweight championship twice is regarded as one of boxing’s greats. If there is one thing that UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos can talk about more than Conor McGregor, it is his own native language. The Brazilian who has been getting flack from McGregor for moving from Brazil and living in the United States to train, had a moment where he won the exchange of words over the outspoken Irish showman during the UFC 197 Press Conference. McGregor said, ““I see a man who, although he is Brazilian, does not represent the Brazilian people like he should. He brings the name of Brazil down. So I will bring the name of Brazil back up once again. Viva la Brasilia!”

It was the Conor McGregor show at the UFC 197 Press Conference. McGregor who showed up nearly half an hour late to the event was not short on words once getting there. McGregor repeatedly interrupted Rafael dos Anjos as he was answering questions from the media. One thing many fans were excited to hear was what the latest prediction was from “Mystic Mac.” McGregor has had a mysterious knack for predicting exactly how his fights would end.
