Frankie Edgar makes case for title fight with Max Holloway

Former UFC lightweight champion and long-time featherweight contender Frankie Edgar is looking to fight Max Holloway for the featherweight strap in the near future. The fighter known as “The Answer” made his case in an Instagram post on Thursday night.

‘Hey @blessedmmanot once but twice we got all dressed up, took pictures and never got to dance. Everybody knows I put my last opportunity on the line because that’s the kind of people we are. Let’s finally get this done! FYI your last fight was epic, let’s put another one in the history books! May I have this Dance?’” – Frankie Edgar on Instagram

Frankie Edgar and Max Holloway have been booked to fight twice before — unfortunately, injuries nixed these plans both times. After the second cancellation, where Max Holloway pulled out due to injury, Edgar decided to remain on the UFC 222 fight card and took a last minute opportunity to fight Brian Ortega. The decision backfired as Edgar lost to a KO in the first round. It was the first time he’d been knocked out in his professional career.

Ortega then went on to lose to Holloway whilst Edgar’s last fight was a unanimous victory over featherweight veteran Cub Swanson.

The timing of this message from Frankie Edgar is difficult to ignore. This weekend, on the main card of UFC 237, Jose Aldo and Alex Volkanovski are set to collide in what is widely viewed as a featherweight number-one contender fight. Edgar, it would seem, is eager to keep his name in the contendership conversation as this high-stakes battle draws closer.

Do you think Frankie Edgar deserves the next shot at reigning UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway?
