Given the ability of both men to hype fights with trash talk, McGregor vs. Diaz has everyone talking. After Nate Diaz was given the spot opposite Conor McGregor at UFC 196, UFC President Dana White revealed that Frankie Edgar was forced to turn the bout down due to a torn groin. After it was announced that Diaz had taken the fight on short notice, Edgar went off on the UFC for making it seem as though he refused the fight, when in reality he was unable to accept. Edgar went as far as to say that the ‘C’ in UFC stands for Conor.

When Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from his UFC 196 main event scrap with Conor McGregor at UFC 196, there was no shortage of top ranked fighters campaigning for the fight against McGregor. Ultimately the UFC gave Nate Diaz the bout on short notice. After that bout was announced, Urijah Faber revealed that Dana White offered him the fight, however Conor McGregor turned it down in favor of a with with Nate Diaz.
